Divine Description of Surya Dev in Vedic Astrology

Surya Dev, the radiant Sun God, is the eternal witness (Sākṣī) of all action, the soul (Ātman) of the cosmos, and the celestial embodiment of consciousness (Chaitanya). He rides across the heavens in his golden chariot drawn by seven divine horses, symbolizing the seven colors of light and the seven days of the week, driven by his charioteer Aruna, the dawn.

In Vedic astrology, Surya represents the Atmakaraka, the significator of the soul. He rules over vitality, willpower, honor, fatherhood, kingship, and dharma (righteousness). The Sun governs the sign Leo (Simha Rashi) and is exalted in Aries (Mesha Rashi), where his divine fire burns brightest.
