Divine Description of Ketu in Vedic Astrology

Ketu, the South Lunar Node, is the headless body of the immortal asura who was once Swarbhanu, the demon who drank the nectar of immortality. While Rahu became the head — symbolizing desire and craving — Ketu became the torso, symbolizing detachment, renunciation, and spiritual wisdom that comes from karmic maturity.

Ketu is usually depicted as a smoky, radiant, headless serpent, riding a vulture or carrying a flag, indicating invisible strength and subtle power. Though he lacks a physical head, he "sees" through intuition and inner knowing — not with sight, but with consciousness.

In Jyotish Shastra, Ketu is often considered exalted in Scorpio (Vrishchika Rashi) and performs well in signs that favor inner exploration and mysticism. He has no rulership of his own, but governs the realms of moksha (liberation), mystical knowledge, renunciation, and past-life karma.
