Divine Description of Chandra Dev in Vedic Astrology
Chandra Dev, the Moon God, is the divine embodiment of beauty, emotion, and mind (Manas). He is the silvery monarch of the night sky, riding his radiant chariot across the heavens, pulled by ten white horses or an antelope, representing calm, grace, and spiritual light in darkness.
In Vedic astrology, Chandra symbolizes the inner self, the mother, and the subtle body. As the natural karaka (significator) of the mind, sensitivity, nourishment, and memory, he governs the flow of emotions, the tides of consciousness, and the nurturing essence of life. He rules over the zodiac sign Cancer (Karka Rashi) and is exalted in Taurus (Vrishabha Rashi), where his nourishing qualities reach their fullest bloom.
Chandra is the lord of Monday (Somavara) and is associated with coolness, calmness, and receptivity. Unlike the steady blaze of Surya, Chandra's ever-changing phases reflect the impermanence of the mind and moods, teaching the soul the rhythm of life — waxing, waning, and rebirth.
The Vedas describe Chandra as Soma, the divine nectar of immortality, flowing with rejuvenating and soothing energy. He is said to reside on the head of Lord Shiva, controlling time and tides, and is counted among the Navagrahas (Nine Planets) who influence human destiny.
